Beginning in March 2002, Niyah Rahmaan and Quiana Johnson (Williams) were given the vision by God to form a Christian Sorority on the campus of Old Dominion University. Two other ladies, Tiffany Goodrich (Clark) and Dennine Smith (Jordan), joined them in this quest in April planning an advisory meeting with the Founders of Mu Omicron Gamma Christian Fraternity, Inc. who gave much needed wisdom about this grand endeavor.
On May 1, 2002, at 3:00 PM on a peaceful Saturday afternoon at Powhatan Village Apartments on the campus of Old Dominion University, our four Founders gathered together privately to established this organization. In this intense meeting, they confirmed the sorority colors, their sorority names in which at the time were known as "Dove Sisters", and the structure of the business. The four Founders are collectively known as "The Appointed Alpha".
In June 2002, Lambda Omicron Chi held its second formal meeting in Norfolk, VA in which they instituted a Constitution and established the operations for the membership advancement plan. After much preparation in September via meetings, advertising, and the like, the intake process was ready for the Spring 2003 prospects.
During this interim, the Founders continued to have long meetings establishing other areas of the organization and pursued being officially recognized as a Sorority at ODU. This plan was granted favorably on December 5, 2002. This same year, they also instituted Mrs. Velma Clark, the mother of Founder Tiffany Goodrich (Clark) as the Founding Mother and Mrs. Tashawnda Jamison as an Honorary Founder who extensively supported the Founders administratively since its inception.
In January 2003, the sorority held its first interest meetings for candidates at Old Dominion University and Hampton University. After meetings, interviews, and deliberations over prospects, three women were selected to participate in the very first intake process at Old Dominion University in February.
Although the first intake process was indeed a trial run with two of the prospects discontinuing their process, the Founders knew that they should not despise small beginnings and had initiated the very first new member, Soror Alicia Renee Tanner deemed as Dove Sister Serenity.
After celebrating this grand moment in history, the Founders continued preparing for the next intake process which birthed the Born Again Beta Chapter of Fall 2003 initiating 4 new Dove Sisters namely Ms. Travonnie Smith, Dove Sister GodChazer, Ms. Krystal Toland, Dove Sister Psalmist, Ms. Giovanni Flack, Dove Sister Joyful Noize, and Ms. Tanesha Washington, Dove Sister Compassion. Their assignment was to pursue recognition status on the campus of Norfolk State University.
Since the inception of the Beta Chapter, many changes have taken place including changing the soror name "Dove Sister" to "Queen" and creating our official motto "Reconciling Queens back into the Kingdom of God", to represent our position in the eyes of God. We also experienced the birthing of the Omicron Family via the representation of our very first Omicron Marriage between the Founder, Ms. Tiffany Clark (Goodrich) and Mu Omicron Gamma's Founder, Mr. Duane Goodrich in 2004. The rest is history indeed for God has led the Founders and the members to participate in establishing the rest of the operations of the ministry to impact generations to come. With many creative new Queens, the Lord has favored us to create an atmosphere of learning, development, and growth in the areas of sisterhood, discipleship, leadership, and fellowship radically impacting women worldwide mentally, physically, socially, financially, and spiritually.
We will always be grateful for what the Lord Jesus Christ has done (and is doing) by placing a vision bigger than us on the inside of the Founders to write down so that those who read it may run with the vision. This is our heritage; therefore, Lambda Omicron Chi Christian Sorority, Inc. will walk boldly with no disguise or compromise proclaiming that Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords is the only way in which we can have eternal life.
